This list of things includes surfing the internet at high speeds whilst on the go, using social media sites, taking pictures, storing hundreds of songs and downloading the latest applications.

Coca-Cola UK has launched a new ad campaign which is aimed at getting people in Britain to recycle more than they currently do. The new ‘Keep it Going’ ads encourage people to buy Coca-Cola and recycle the empty packaging once they have finished. The ad campaign was created as a recent study has shown that the packaging accounts for the biggest proportion of a drinks carbon footprint.

By simply recycling their empty Coca-Cola can or bottle consumers could make a major difference to the environment. Coca-Cola also hopes to reduce the packaging in the future by a further 5%.

Coca-Cola is also investing in a new nationwide scheme to add ‘Recycle Zones’ all over the UK. These new zones will allow people to drop off their items to be recycled and also offer tips on how consumers can reduce their own carbon footprints. The first to get a new Recycle Zone was Thorpe Park and Manchester Airport, the first city in the UK is Southampton.

In order for the UK to meet future recycling targets as set out by the requirements of the WEEE directive many more small devices must be recycled.

The claim has been made by Virdor, a UK waste electric and electronic equipment processing company. Virdor stated that large electronic equipment such as fridges, freezers and TV’s are already being picked up and recycled successfully. More local schemes are still needed for smaller devices including toasters, radios, games consoles, digital cameras and old mobile phones as large amounts are still ending up at landfill.

The EU is currently reviewing the WEEE directive and is considering changing the requirements which will mean that the UK’s recycling targets will rise from 38% to 65%. If the target is increased then a lot of thought will have to go into how many small consumer electronic devices can be recycled.

A new recycling scheme being run in Aberdeen is allowing local households to recycle any old electronic devices.

Under new plans being drawn up by ministers in Whitehall every home will be issued with a slop bucket to allow all food waste to be recycled. Under the new plans the dumping of food waste in rubbish bins will be banned and instead it will all be sent to recycling plants.

The new scheme will mean that every kitchen in Britain will have a slop bucket or kitchen caddy as they are referred to in Whitehall. Everything from mouldy vegetables to left over’s from meals will have to go in the bucket.

Anyone who doesn’t use the new slop buckets and puts food waste out with their normal rubbish will face a fine of up to £500.

The new scheme has already been tried out over last year at 94,000 homes where a major problem has already been found. This is the bad smell caused by piling up old food waste in a bucket which can also cause infestations of either flies, maggots or rats.

Despite the hygiene problems that could be caused the scheme is set to go ahead by the end of 2011.

To raise awareness that scrap gold can be sold for so much money many recycling companies have now launched advertising campaigns on day time TV. Gold Parties are also becoming one of the latest crazes where people meet up in their houses in order to sell off all their old gold.

The most popular way to sell your old gold and jewellery is through one of the many online gold recycling companies. Customers simply send in their old gold and jewellery via free insured delivery, once it is received it will be valued and a cheque sent with a few days.
